Burglars usually access your home through two points of entry. They normally enter through your home doors or windows. While there are rare occasions where they might enter another way, they almost always enter through these two entry points.
A lot of burglars will use your front door. This is why it is so important to make sure that your front door is strong and sturdy. Be sure that it is made out of solid wood and not plywood, or metal.
Secure your front door with a good locking system. The best lock is a deadbolt, which needs to be placed at least three inches deep into your door. Your front door should also be fitted with a peephole.
Thieves also use a lot of first floor windows. This can happen a lot of times due to windows being left open and unlocked. Even though most thieves break in to first floor windows, there is still a chance they will choose a second story window.
Be sure to keep your windows locked at all times. If your windows don’t use locks, but use latches, you can use wooden dowels to stop your window from sliding open. Home security systems also have a glass break detector that can alert you of any windows being broken.
Thieves also use the backdoor a lot to gain entrance. Many burglars prefer back doors because they can use the fence and shrubbery for cover. This is why it is important for you to take care of your backyard security, such as installing motion detecting lights.
An alarm system is a wonderful asset for your home. It can protect both door and window entrances by having a transmitter placed above it. If anyone enters through your windows and doors, the alarm will be activated.
Never leave your garage door open, even if you are only going to be away for a few, short moments. Make sure that your garage door is secure and also has a deadbolt. Burglars can steal things from your garage, or try to break in through the side door to the home.
